The Plan
Am I really doing this?
I've listed about 200 books on Amazon and sold some bulky items on eBay. My savings contribution from each pay period has doubled and I am half way to meeting my September cash savings goal. Primary Objective: Save $25,000 total by June. Secondary Objective: Downsize my stuff.
Too ambitious? Possibly, but somewhere I learned the value of shooting for the stars even if I only ever capture the moon. Homesteading seems like it can make early retirement or at least a hastened resignation, a reality. Step 1: Buy land.
I hate working for someone else and being a slave to bills and will no longer accept the it-is-what-it-is mentality. I want a higher quality of life.
When you depend on others whom you cannot influence you become powerless. Growing your own food is recession proof. Homesteaders are not as deeply if at all impacted by rises in gas prices and they do not need to worry about a pink slip.
I have laid awake at night thinking about the fact that if I lost my job, I could lose my home. Then what? There are no good options. Which is why, when seeking employment, I have lowered my standards for working conditions. No more! I want to choose my working conditions.
I choose trees and dark skies.
